John Middleton, Certified Neuro-Linguistic Practitioner, Certified Hypnotherapist, Certified Timeline (TM) Therapist

I became a therapist relatively late in life and by an unexpected route. In 2003, after moving with my wife from London to Somerset, I had taken up clay target shooting and qualified as a shooting instructor.  My goal was to help myself and others master the art and science of shooting.

However, my progress in this area suddenly took a tumble when I developed a condition called 'trigger freeze' Basically, I had developed a mental block which prevented me from pulling the trigger. More than an inconvenience for someone trying to build up a business in shooting tuition!

But as one door closed another one opened. I found out that trigger freeze was a fairly common complaint amongst marksmen and that there were parallel conditions in many other sports. I also found out that there were ways not only of overcoming these conditions  but also of overcoming a whole range of other states of mind which prevent people from achieving their potential in life.

Spurred on by the desire to overcome my own trigger freeze problem, I began to read about Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Hypnotherapy and finally studied to become a qualiified NLP practitioner, Time Line Therapist and Hypnotherapist.

Having managed to get my own trigger freeze problem under control, I am pleased now to be able to share this learning with my clay shooting pupils to enable them to achieve optimum performance.

But my passion is now not just about helping clay shooters, although this remains a key area of my work. It is to help people from all walks of life take control of their lives and develop their potential, using the skills I have learnt.

Examples of issues I can help with include:

- Lack of confidence

- Phobias, fears and anxiety attacks

- Exam and public speaking nerves

- Stress

- Addictions (drugs and alcohol)

- Habits (smoking, nail biting etc)

- Weight control

- Relationship building

- Goal Setting
